Dorset Wildlife Trust. Commodore’s Charity of the Year

Charity Spotlight: Dorset Wildlife Trust

Dorset Wildlife Trust champions the county’s wildlife and wild places, inspiring people to connect with nature on their doorstep and leading the way in sustainable land management.  Founded in 1961 by volunteers, the Trust is now supported by over 27,000 members and hundreds of dedicated volunteers. Through the management of 42 nature reserves and four visitor centres across Dorset, and in partnership with landowners, councils, farmers and other conservation organisations, they protect habitats, create more space for nature to thrive, and inspire action for wildlife.

In the face of the climate and ecological crises, the charity believes they have a vital role to play. They aim to:

  • Create more space for wildlife so nature can adapt, recover, and help tackle climate change by locking up carbon, cleaning water, and reducing flood risk.
  • Provide opportunities for people from all backgrounds to experience nature and contribute to solutions for today’s environmental challenges.
