The Commodore’s Charity for 2022-2025 is Routes to Roots, which supports adult homeless and rough sleepers in the Poole area.
The Charity started working with rough sleepers in 2000, became a registered charity in 2002, and a Charitable Incorporated Association (CIO) in 2014. Last year, the Charity was able to purchase the former Baptist Church premises in Poole with a grant from the Talbot Village Trust.
Commenting on this announcement the Chair of Routes to Roots, Revd Pat Southgate said: “We are extremely grateful for the support of your members, which comes at a pivotal point in the charity’s history. Not only are we celebrating our 20th anniversary but at the end of March we will move into our own building.
“This building, Genesis Centre on Hill Street in Poole, will be the very first dedicated centre for support to Poole’s homeless and vulnerably housed. Our aim is to create a Place of Change in Poole. We will establish a one-stop centre, ‘All Under One Roof’ through partnership with all relevant local agencies. As funding and volunteer support permit, we will increase both our opening hours and the outreach services offered to include financial advice, training and other opportunities to stave off poverty and help our clients move back into the community.”
Revd. Southgate added: “Your support over the next three years will help us achieve what many thought was an impossible dream.”
More information will be displayed on the Club notice board. This will be regularly updated and include receipts of donations made. In the meantime, for more details about the Charity: Click Here.
