RMYC Club member Jenna Vincent is set to take on an extraordinary Atlantic rowing challenge to raise funds in memory of a close school friend.
Jenna, 25, from Poole, will join Liv Stocks, 22, from East Yorkshire, and Meg Neely, 24, from Swindon, for the epic 3,000-mile (4,800km) journey later this year. The trio will compete in the World’s Toughest Row, setting off in December alongside teams from around the globe.
Liv is fundraising for A Shining Light, a Howden-based charity established following the death of her school friend, Luke Stevens, who passed away from bone cancer in 2021 at the age of 17. The charity supports NHS services and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
The team, named Just Row With It, will attempt to row from the Canary Islands to Antigua in their ocean-going boat Stevo. They hope to make history as the youngest all-female trio to complete the crossing.
The demanding challenge is expected to take between 45 and 50 days, with provisions on board for up to 60 days at sea. The row will see the crew live a stripped-back routine of “eat, sleep, row, repeat,” entirely unsupported in the open ocean.
Although the team has completed extensive preparation, including navigation and survival training, they recognise the unpredictable nature of the Atlantic.
Ahead of their departure, the team and their boat will be visiting the Howden Show this Sunday, offering an opportunity for supporters to meet them and learn more about the challenge.
