Introduction to Texas Hold’em: What to Expect
This event will be for members who are interested in learning No-Limit Texas Hold’em (poker). This is currently the most popular form of poker and is played in casinos, pubs, private members clubs and friendly home games.
The aim of the lesson is for those attending to be able to understand the basic rules and be able to comfortably sit at a poker table and play.
You do not need to know anything about poker or playing cards before attending.
Each lesson will run for 3 – 4 hrs and will consist of 8 members and myself. The first hour will be split in two parts. The first half will be an overview of the equipment used, the types of games (cash and tournament), blinds, the rules, etiquette and definitions etc. The second half will be demonstrating a game and then several face up games for members to make decisions in the open, discuss these decisions and become comfortable with the format.
We will then take a short break before starting a mini competition. All members will play following the proper structure with blinds increasing that results in the game ending within around 3 hours. The winner will be given a bottle of prosecco and a classic poker winning photo. I will be dealing but not playing, which means I can support players with any questions they may have. The following handouts will be provided and can be used while playing and taken away for further study:
– Step by step guide to a hand
– Poker actions
– Poker hands
– Table positions
– Outs
– Range chart
– Definitions
